[Test] Re: Editors and there sources
in reply to a message by Anya Mel’nik or Mel’nyk
It was a name a submitted a while back so I do not necessary have the name at the top of my head but there was more than enough resources to prove that it was a real name, if you searched it up you would've found many sites that said the same root/meaning of it. Thank you also for mentioning a few of your sources you use, are they underground name websites or are they pretty common websites in your region? Also just another quick question (I know it may be different on your end), but are these the some of the websites you use to prove it's a real name or for meanings? Thanks!

I looked under your username in the submission database and you have only two names submitted. Calpus was submitted yesterday and is still in the submission database. Miramichi was submitted 2/4/2025 and it is still in the submission database but is listed under the place name website.
Do you mean you "searched" for the name or you "submitted" the name, because the two are different?

That's what I'm thinking. I think the name might’ve failed to submit just due to an error. Is this correct @aint_alessia? Did you submit the name but it failed, or did you *search* for the name instead?
Basically a while back, I anonymously submitted a name that had enough sources to prove that it was a real name by a basic Google search. But when I searched for it again, the name wasn't there and I checked my notifications to see an editor has removed it from the user-submitted names. So I was just confused as to why the name gotten deleted as there was enough references to prove it AND have usages/meanings of the name.
Unfortunately, without the name, because you submitted anonymously its difficult to know why it was deleted. Even with resources, names can be deleted if they are duplicates, already in the database, etc.
It mostly is for if it is real name, but wikipedia can be trusted for meaning- as person who has did work on wikipedia they have very strict guidelines...
Most of these sources are some of first things that will show up when searching in Russian / Ukrainian on Yandex Browser, so not obscure!
I forgot about this also
https://statusname.ru/ (in Russian)
https://www.wiktionary.org/ (sister of wikipedia)
What type(s) of name are you submit? (Forename, surname, place name) it can help me help you.

Okay that makes a lot of sense regarding proving if something is a real name or not. I usually submit forenames but I am having issues finding names that are actually proven to have meanings on them that are mostly rare.
Name does not have to have meaning to go on site, e.g names that are sound combinations (like Braxley).
You can write "meaning unknown" or leave this blank.

Alright, will make that a note for future reference. Thank you for being so helpful regarding user submissions.
It is not problem! :)
