[Opinions] Re: Which spelling for these names?
I kinda think of Derek and Derrick as distinct forms rather than alternate spellings. Like Catalina and Caitlin. I favor Derek a little, but not as an alternative to Derrick, just as a name I like a bit more - if that makes sense.Marc ... I like it as a nick for Marcus, but I'm so very tired of Mark.
Lewis. Makes the prn I prefer, unambiguous.
Carl - I guess I like it more than Karl but in general I don't care for this name
Caiden I like more than Kayden, but Caden is better than either
Edmund looks more "correct" or just familiar to me although I'm not sure I'd prefer it otherwise.
Jacob is "Jay-cub," to me, and Jakob looks more likely to be "Yah-cup" or something ... so I prefer Jacob.
Zach / Zack - I dunno. I guess I kinda like Zack better. It looks more fun somehow.
Colin > Collin. I've never seen Nicholas in any form with 2 L's so Collin just seems fake-surnamey.
Irvin > Irving. I like Irwin more than Irvin, too.- mirfak

But Catalina and Caitlin are actually pronounced differently, while Derek and Derrick have identical pronunciations and were popular around the same time. I feel like the evidence points to them being alternate spellings.
Oh, totally agree. I was just saying how my brain seems to sort them (wrong) as if they were different names.
Ohhh, gotcha!
