[Facts] Re: Query re name not listed on site
in reply to a message by Lou
Baden is common among several languages and comes from multiple sources, so I need more info. Is it a first name, surname, or place name, and where does it come from (what language)?

Baden is also the name of a region in Germany, now part of Baden-Wurttemberg. Obviously Germans don't use it as a name.
Indeed. The place name in Germany is from an old plural form of "bath", but literally means "bathing" in modern German.
My first association is with the Boy Scouts.
Thanks for responding. Its a first name; location - Australia; Language - English.
As you've noted, its a relatively common name, which is why I was surprised it didn't make this site.

Are the users you have come across pronouncing it as BAY-dən or as bāden? The former is likely unassociated with the surname Baden and is more likely associated with the -ayden/-aden trend of the noughties, with names like Caden, Drayden, Hayden, Jaden, Kayden, Paden, Raiden, Tayden, Zaiden, etc being popular. Baden/Bayden was sprinkled in there as well.
As an English first name, it would be derived from the surname which comes from a village in England. It is from either Baydon (from Old English 'beg' + 'dūn', "berry hill") or from an placed called Bayden is Sussex which is lost and only mentioned in 17th-century documents.

Thank you - and much appreciated.
(While you may or may not know) How does a name get added to the official site - so that it comes with all the other accompanying info?

Sorry for the late response. Ultimately, it is up to the main editor (Mike C.) to include a name on the main site. The names are generally not announced until before the site update and I am not very aware of his methodology.
Thanks everyone for your input.
I’m also curious about this, to be honest. I see lots of completely verified names in the submitted names that never get added.
Mike C has thousands of names to sort through and he does it all on his own time. As far as I'm aware he still has a full time job and family. So, as you might imagine, adding names takes times and he wants to make sure the names are legitimate, have appropriate documentation of use, and are added in a timely manner. We can cut him some slack. Its a never ending database.
