[Surname] Cantu history
I'm a Cantu that lives in Ohio, my parents are roel Cantu and Magdalena garza originally from Alice Texas, as there are a lot of Cantu's in this area and surrounding. My grandpa was Andres Cantu ,he had blue/ green eyes and looked white, but also know his mother was a full blown Indian, not sure what kind, but my dad roel has many brothers and 2 sisters. All moved everywhere, but am interested to see if anyone knows of any further ancestry. I am doing the DNA soon and will find out more. Thank you for any more information.

According to Ancestry (see: https://www.ancestry.com/name-origin?surname=cantu), it is an Italian and Hispanic habitational name from Cantù, Lombardy. According to Italian Wikipedia (see: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cant%C3%B9), the name of the village comes from Latin Canturium, either referring to the Canturigi—a Celtic tribe that once inhabited the area—or originating from Latin Cantores, referring to a choir gallery.
