I've encountered Katherine and Kathryn most often. Catherine is less common among my acquaintances.
Katie was the most common nickname among school age kids. In college, Kate became more prevalent. Katie is fun, lively, and approachable. Kate is a bit more spikey, but I like it too.
Kat reminds me of the girl who was friends with Casper the friendly ghost. Cat makes me think of the animal.
I'm surprised I haven't encountered Rin or Ryn being used as a nickname. It would be a fresh take.
