No, thegriffon isn't joking. It is a more recently made up name and that is what it means. There is no deeper meaning than that for the name.

You can consider it a placeholder, for someone who didn't have a family name (known to the recorder); who wanted a break from their forbears; or who was being forceably seperated. A form required a surname so ABCeDe was entered.
