My great-grandmother was named Edna. She was born in Philadelphia, in...1905, I think? 1906? I can't remember.
Anyway, I agree, the name is hideous. I can't tell you why it was popular...maybe because of fathers named Edward? IDK, it's so clunky and flat and BAH. I really don't like it.
