[Opinions] Wilfred and Winfred
What kind of vibe do you get from each of these names? Do they seem very similar to you, or do you get a distinct impression from each? Also, which do you prefer?I'm curious because they seem very similar to me, but 61% of people in a poll I did preferred Wilfred.

Wilfredo is a common Hispanic name, a lot of them go by Wilfred in English, so I think of a Hispanic guy in his late 20s. Not a bad association. I would view Winfred as a very old man from Minnesota or England. I like Wilfred, wouldn't use it. Winfred sounds too similar to Winifred.

Wilfred has a nice, older sound to it. And it sounds very wise and genteel to me. Like the name of an owl almost.Winfred feels feminine to me because of Winifred. I really like the name Winifred, and I can't really see Winfred as a male name.

I prefer Wilfred. Winfred is too feminine for my ears, because of the similarity to Winifred. And I simply prefer the L over the N, because the N has not a strong sound.

The vibe is I get is honestly, quite cartoon-ish. I think they are very similar, I don’t necessarily get a distinct impression because they are so similar in my head.

On first pass, they do seem really similar and I don't know that I prefer one or the other. But Wilfred has a bit of a trendy, posh British toddler vibe, whereas Winfred feels more like a middle-aged oddball.
