It works ... but if in the US, probably it works a lot better in urban, coastal areas. There's a certain impression from the flor- part that could lead to it being interpreted as wimpy. More so than Francis, less so than Meriwether.

I like it alright. I don't think it's wimpy. It's like Julian. Easy enough to picture on a weak person, but even easier to picture on a strong one. Florian is colder than Julian though.

This is the name I love and always forget about!

It's way too feminine sounding for a modern American boy. I'd pair it with Butch to balance it out. Florian Butch.

Works fine in real life. I know two, one is Austrian and one is Swiss. I’ve also been in contact via e-mail with a couple of French Florians, one is Florian Hugo.

I adore Florian! It's been "working" for almost two millennia.

Way too flowery to work in my opinion. I don't mind Flora on a girl. I put it in the same group as Adrian, Julian, Dorian etc. - prissy, feminine, whiny names for boys that make me cringe.

I know several Florians (all German), I think it's a great name! Not sure if it would work in English-speaking countries though. Fabian is probably more usable.

Florian is a little snooty to me, probably because the only one I'm aware of is the French judge on one of the baking shows on the food network. It's not bad though, but the Flor- obviously brings to mind floral, flowers, which isn't something a lot of people are into for boys.

I did briefly work with a girl named Florianne (apparently called "Flo" by friends, but she was just Florianne at work) and I don't get the same impression from Florianne [f] that I do from Florian [m].

I think it works, but I'm not a huge fan. However, I love Dorian. I know Florian is a boy's name, but it seems unisex to me. Maybe Florian Arthur.
