I like Elizabeth, but I don't like many of the nicknames that go along with it, including Beth. Beth is just so...homely and timid. And, considering the fallback nicknames (i.e. the nicknames strangers will go straight for) for Elizabeth are my least favorite, Beth and Liz, I tend to steer clear of it as a first name.
I think it gets "spunky" with the middles of Elizabeth Ophelia, Elizabeth Vesper, or Elizabeth Viridiana. If I want to go classic but still cool I would go with Elizabeth Virginia, Elizabeth Thomasina, or Elizabeth Margot.
