I don't like it either, and it's only in small part because it's a phonebook surname name among legions of same.
I think almost all my dislike for it traces to the word "HAD" in it.
Had = past tense, suggests passive voice. And possessed, as an object.
Seems negating, to be Had.
If it were Hatley, I might feel sort of indulgent towards it, because it has a kewt-like sound. But it's not, it doesn't, and it sounds morose and scrubby.
