[Opinions] Edwina
Edwina.. yay or nay?Trying to expand our list of girls names from three... to more than three! Lol. I used to detest that name, but now it's suddenly grown on me and it's one of the feminised names that husband likes! (He dislikes Rowena, Wilhelmina and Thomasina much to my disgust)
Also, it's a bit of an honouring name as my grandfather is Edward and husbands grandfather was Edmund, so that's kinda nice too.1) Do you like Edwina?2) Do you think Eddie is a cute nickname for a girl?3) What siblings go best with Edwina?
Rufus, Sidney, Casper, Theodora, Hilda, Daphne4) What would be a nice middle name to go with Edwina? Possibly with a second middle name of HildaEdwina ____ Hilda Arnold

I can't get past the "ween" part. It just sounds yuck to me.I'm not particularly fond of "Eddie" for a girl. I like some boyish nicknames on girls, but not that one. Edie is better IMO.Edwina and Casper are pretty good together. Hilda too. I don't think the other ones sound good with Edwina.

I really like Edwina. It seems kind of witchy to me.

First off, this might not hold true in Australia, but in the US, Eddy Arnold (I think that's the spelling) is a pretty well-known old-style country -western singer.Edwina is hideous, so hideous it seems almost deliberately designed to be hideous. It would fit right in with hideous siblings Rufus and Hilda.Eddie as a nn for a girl seems self-consciously tomboyish and won't age well. I do know a woman around sixty named Eddie, I don't know if it's short for anything or not. She's from the hills of West Virginia, and I think that kind of name on a girl is also pretty typical of the poor rural south several generations ago.

I knew a half-French Suzanne Edwina - father or grandfather is/was Edward. Edwina is good. Stylish, in a jazz-age way. Edwina would show her legs right up to the knee, wear fringed clothes and long ropes of beads, and Charleston the night away. Eddie is a good nn for Edwina, mostly perhaps because I really don't enjoy it as a male nn. And there's also Winnie!I think the best matches as sibs would be Rufus and Daphne. Edwina Lucy Hilda? Edwina Joan Hilda? Edwina Ruth Hilda? Edwina Penelope Hilda - OK, it's a lot, but it does sound lovely.

1. Sorry, but you lose me with Edwina! I think it's a horrible name.2. I don't like Eddie as a nn for a girl in the slightest. 3. Theodora, Hilda and Sidney would work best with Edwina.4. Edwina Mary Hilda Arnold, Edwina Josephine Hilda Arnold or Edwina Felicity Hilda Arnold

hahaha. well I guess we were always going to disagree on a name somewhere!! Lol. I doubt we will use Edwina, but i'm just kinda getting a bit sick of Daphne, Winifred and Theodora.. the only three names we actually like!Ironically, Hilda Mary is my grandmothers name! So Edwina Mary Hilda is massively honouring! Too bad I hate Mary. My grandmother hates Hilda, I really want to use it but she's so against it! :( She tried to talk me into Mary instead. ewwEdwina Josephine is gorgeous!

Daphne, Winifred, and Theodora are such awesome names, though! So cool. Man, can you imagine these names on triplets? It'd be awesome.

What about using Miriam instead of Mary? That way it still honours your grandmother, but it isn't using Hilda, if she hates it that much!! Personally I don't like Winifred or Theodora, but Daphne is great, don't give up on Daphne! Daphne Miriam Arnold would be lovely.
