I pronounce them differently. Miriam is MEER-iam, and Mariam is MARE-iam.

Mariam is MAR-iam to me

not MAIR-iam. Although I could be trained easily to say it MAIR- and it would seem nice, I would go around thinking it was basically incorrect.
