I prefer the look of Emilie. It feels very soft with the "ie" at the end.
I would consider using a variant spelling of a popular name if it had the characteristics I like. For example, I MUCH prefer Vivienne to Vivian as it looks much more elegant, and Elisabeth to Elizabeth as I like the Norwegian version.
