I've no idea! I've only ever seen Lillian spelt with two "L"s I thought it was normal... :)

I'm uncertain if you are saying that Lillian is used in England and the US but not much elsewhere or if you are saying that Lillian is common in the US but not England.
Lillian is definitely the more common spelling in the US, I'm not certain about England but Millie is from England and she is only familiar with the spelling Lillian. That might be what you were trying to comment on.

I'm pretty naive when it comes to US and popular baby names, spellings etc, here in England I'm quite certain that Lillian is the most common spelling though it is not a very common name so it's hard to be sure. :)
