I was writing a response but the previous poster beat me to it.:) That information is correct. Japanese names don't have one etymology or meaning, but the meaning depends on which characters are chosen by the parents.
My only additional comment is that there are some fairly standardized elements used in names. "Ichi" almost always means "one" or "first" and is used for a firstborn son.
Also, the ending -o is usually written 夫, 男 or 雄, all of which have the basic meaning of "man, male."
