I think Ellie can stand on its own. I think it's quite cute, but when I think of the name I wonder if it's too "cute" for someone to grow into.
I don't think Allie and Ellie would be confused. I definitely prefer Ellie over Allie if they're both standing on their own. I don't care for Allie on its own at all.
