I know a man named Oisin, now in his 40's, raised in Maine. He did have some problems with people who didn't know him and had only read the name tending to pronounce it O-sin, or Oy-sin. But really, anyone who knew him or his family quickly got the hang of it, and around here, he was the only one with the name. But even when people knew how to pronounce it, the spelling of it became another hurdle. He took to telling them it was spelled similarly to poison. These problems are shared by those bearing lots of other Welsh & Irish names, not to mention Asian or African ones, which we are seeming more of all the time. There is a sizable Somalian community in one of our cities, and Chinese students are being actively recruited by Maine high schools with dwindling local populations--ours had at least 20 this past year.

Aside from all that, I really like the name Oisin, as well as its meaning.
