My name is Saraya. I've never once had it linked to Psoriasis. They really don't sound that similar.I love it, and have had nothing but compliments.Sariah maybe is a little similar to Psoriasis, but still so much better than McKinley or Tenley or McKiley or Kynzee (all of which I've seen IRL). Addison, Amelia - two examples of names that are also medical conditions. i could think of more but I'm late so it'll have to wait for later.

How about Malorie? Sounds very similar to Malaria.

Yeah they do... in N. Am'n En. anyway, they sound close... all you do is add a sis to the end... Doesn't mean it wouldn't otherwise be pretty... just that for the medically aware, our first thought when we hear it is liver disease.Amelia makes me think of Amelia Bidelia though and is therefore not even on my radar...Just plain not a fan of Addison...If going solely on sound with no other associations, I think Soraya would sound the nicest of the 3...I'm not a big fan of most Mc names as given names either.

maybe if you are using the -rye prn. But my name is -ray, and I think if you was it with -ray in the middle then it doesn't sound anything like it. I can see -rye making you think Psoriasis.

That would def. make some difference... spelling makes it ambiguous though.

ray = ray *shrugs*I can see rye for Sariah, but I don't get it for Soraya or Saraya. But maybe thats just me.Alot of people here prn. my name as -rye too. Naima, Line and Anissa's dad STILL does it, after 7 months. I can't stand the -rye prn.

Perhaps if the y were replaced w/ an i...Then it would at least be clear that it's a vowel sound, though whether it's 1 vowel sound or the other could still be up in the air.

It all depends on whether people treat the y as a vowel or a consonant... While y acts like a vowel in SOME languages, in others, it's only a consonant and there are many languages for which a is ALWAYS ah and NEVER ai/ay like in ate, so when it's a language one's not familiar with, one doesn't assume that a-y-vowel will be ay-vowel... it could be a-ya or a-yo... etc... so it's a REALLY easy mistake.

Yeah I think most people use Rye here, because we have so many Spanish speakers.
Then again, what do I know.
But even though it sounds exactly like Psoriasis to my ear it doesn't bother me.

Psoriasis is a skin condition.
Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver.

ok... sorry... still sounds like one the way some people prn. it and makes a person potentially also think of the other.
