Round 2Susanna was greatly pleased that the potions and elixers to discourage conception she had her physicians mix up for her did their job. She and Bran were perfectly happy with little Quinn for the time being, and Susanna was able to get comfortable with both her new roles before deciding to have children. Once Quinn was out of diapers and speaking and running around, she then decided that the time was right for another child. Within just a few months she found herself pregnant again, and everyone rejoiced. Part of Susanna felt a little guilty, knowing she was depriving Quinn of the crown, but she resaoned he would never remember a time when he was the heir. This pregnancy was much harder; she was much heavier and much more tired, and when labor came it was much more intense. The reason was soon evident--she was having twins. A little girl was born first, only seven minutes before a little boy. Both weighed six pounds, and the delivery left the queen exhausted. But she made it through healthy as before, and had a daughter and another son to coo over when it was over. The girl resembled her a great deal, while the boy was the very image of Bran. Susanna and Bran fell in love with them at once. They laughed that they got to use both of the names they had decided on: Rosabelle Evelina Susanna Irena Joyce, Rose for short, for their daughter and Walter Brandon Donovan Matthew Bernard for their son. Both are very sweet and contented babies, which their parents and nurses are very grateful for. Quinn was at first a little shy of them, but after a few days warmed up to them and turned into a very good big brother. While Susanna and Bran were busy loving their babies, Susanna's advisors worried. Technically Walter was now the heir, being the second-born twin, but whentime came to pass the throne on trouble could be caused if Princess Rosabelle got any supporters. Susanna refused to believe that her children would fight over the throne and staunchly declared that she would raise them better than that. But still, only months after the twins' birth her advisors began gently prodding the queen to think about another child sooner rather than later. Only twenty-one, Susanna assured them more children would come. For now she was busy celebrating the birth of her twins and preparing for the upcoming marriage of her favorite sister, Princess Gabriella. Her brother's marriage to Tatiana, a populaar young lady, had been a lavish affair, and Susannan would spare no expense for Gabby's marriage to Lord Fredrick. Freddie is a charming man a little older than Gabby, and Susanna gavethem a fabulous wedding and an estate as a gift to them. Gabby, who had been a devoted aunt to Quin, was equally enchanted with the twins.Round ThreeThe twins were not even eight months old when Susanna realized she was pregnant again. This time the physicians watched her very carefully, and she seemed healthy throughout. Bran was forced to stand in for her on some of her more ceremonial duties, as the doctors orderd a strict schedule of rest. She often met with her ministers and advisors from her bedchamber. Her mother was especially worried about her, especially since Susanna began to grow depressed that she could not take care of Rose and Walter the way she wanted to. The labor was more painful than any other, probably because she had barely healed from the twins' birth. A healthy, beautiful baby girl was born after a relatively quick but excruciating delivery. She was beautiful and had a strong, lusty cry. The queen named her Alexandra Elizabeth Charlotte Victoria Jane, Alexandera honoring her late father and Elizabeth both herself and her mother. Susanna loved her daughter and new heir as easily as she had loved all the others, and everyone rejoiced to see both mother and baby had made it through the delivery in good health. But soon it became clear that all was not right with Susanna. She was weak and sickened easily, her appetite decreased, and she cried easily. Bran and Dowager Queen Evelina watched her closely, comforting her and helping her and pointing out how beautiful Alexandra was and how much Quinn and Rose and Walter loved her. After a while Susanna's depression ran its course, but her health was still weak. Bran vowed that no more children would come until his beloved wife and queen had recovered all her health and was herself again. Twenty-two, he thought with fear, was far too young to die, and he and the children and the entire kingdom loved her so much it would be like losing their hearts to lose her. Bran blames the advisors for putting the idea of the need for another baby in her head, and he cannot look at them without anger. Susanna has tried to mediate, but he cannot let go of the blame. This new animosity worries Susanna; but the advisors have kept their mouths absolutely shut about another child. She hopes in time he will see they had nothing to do with it.
