I can't see it working on a real person. It sounds more like a pets name, or it might make a good informal or "family" nickname. It reminds me of the character from Pokemon!

Sorry but it's on the stripper-y side...

I'm not sure how I feel about Misty as a given name, but I think it's an adorable nickname for Artemis :)

It is a GP for me. I would never use it because it sounds kind of tacky and it is the name of my grandma's dog.

It's ok, but I wouldn't use it. It sounds a little "trampy" to me, sorry!

I'm torn. One hand I completely and totally agree with what Mirfak said. On the other I somewhat like it. I don't think it's something I'd use but I've known a few and they were okay. I wouldn't immediately judge someone negatively with it.

Hm, I sometimes don't have my full ln in order to prevent my students from adding me. My account isn't deleted...

It's kind of cheesy and too 70s/80s trendy. There are certainly worse names out there, but I'm not really fan of it. It's cute for a pet, though. For a person, it's too insubstantial and on the flimsy side.

I know a Misty who's in her early 20's. She's the daughter of one of my coworkers, and has subbed a couple of times. I don't remember what she studied in college, but she did go to some archeological digs in Peru and Romania. I wouldn't use it on a person, but I don't have a strong of a negative opinion on it like others here.

Screams 80's and Pokemon for me.

It's horrendous. I used to know a Misty. Her middle name was Breeze.

Straight out of the Trailer park! Misty is a name I see on Jerry Springer far too often. Even a show like Pokemon can only take this name so far.

I went to elementary school with a girl named Misty Dawn. Our teacher always called her Mitzi by accident, because that was the name of her (the teacher's) dog. Maybe cat. I can't remember. Anyway, I always thought it was really tacky. However, it's sort of grown on me. I like it if I picture it on a little girl or an old lady. I'm having trouble seeing it on anyone in between, though.

To me it can be put in a category with Brandy and Crystal... a 70's style name that I picture on a girl/woman from a working-class or lower-middle-class family. I think it is weaker sounding than Brandy and Crystal, though, I guess because of the images (of mist, and of weeping or reverie).I hear Johnny Mathis singing, also.I don't really like it. It also reminds me a little of Missy (nn for Melissa) which has always seemed childish to me. I haven't ever met any Mistys that I can recall. If I had, I might not feel so negative about it.

I'm pretty alone, I'm sure, but I really like Misty. Misty from Pokemon was my favorite character, soooo.... :D I think it's cute. I had a friend who had a daughter named Misty - she's probably about five now - so I can see it on a person. (Plus I think maybe I'm being just a little contrary by liking it, since I know most people don't. Someone has to love Misty!)

I'll have teaching practicum next year and the kids always call the practicum teachers by their ln initial. So, I'll be Miss T - my sister noted that it'll be like Misty. :) That's why I asked for opinions on the name. In my opinion it's cute! :)

Fine for a pet.

Acceptable name for a gray cat --

I don't like it at all. Misty is the kind of name that you would give a horse, not a girl. On a person, it's kitschy and inelegant.

I hate it. I find it trashy and annoying. Plus I always hated Misty from Pokemon.

Reminds me of Pokémon :D
Which is good, I guess. Misty was the best out of every lead girl so far.
But it's really cute!~
