[Facts] Re: THE NAME HELUS
in reply to a message by HELUS
Try Old Norse, where Heill meant 'hale, hearty, happy' which morphed into the adj. heilagr 'prosperous, successful' and became the common Scandinavian name element Hel- as in Helge, better known to Germans in it's feminine form, Helga.Devon

Hi!I doubt that there's a connection because according to name statistics there is nobody with the name Helus (neither for first nor surname) in the Scandinavian countries ...Regards, Satu

A quick look found a Johann Hellus in Germany in the 1700's with a daughter that took on the surname Helusova....pointing towards Bohemian roots. Maybe Czech? Slovak? If so, wonder if it's based on the Greek helios then or another Slavic root....hmmmm.Devon
