There is no law that I'm aware of in the United States (where I live and most likely would be raising any kids I may have) about naming a child with a common last name. We have many many children named
Madison,
Taylor,
Logan, etc. (which are all common last names in the states) running around so I don't see what's really wrong with having a Schroeder in a classroom...and I'm not considering it because it's a "trendy last name"...I just like the peanuts piano playing connection.
