wdyt of Aisling ? i think it looks really pretty and i like ASH-leen and ASH-ling but not ASH-lyn- unfortunately i have no idea how it is actually pronounced. does anyone know for sure ? almost everybody who commented on it said it was ASH-lyn but behindthename says it is ASH-ling and I always thought it was either that or ASH-leen.

Interesting. I thought the pronunciation was more phonetic, like A-sling. I like ASH-lyn a little better, but still see it as nothing more than an off-shoot of the uber-popular Ashley. Ashlyn and Ashlynn as less likely to be mispronounced, but seem even more like Ashley.
Overall, I do think all four, Aisling, Aislinn, Ashlyn, and Ashlynn, have serious trend potential.

Funny, I thought it would be pronounced with the "ay" sound at the beginning too, not "ash," but I was wrong. I checked another site to see more about the name and it's pronunciation, and I got this:
The girl's name Aisling \a(i)-sli-ng, ais-ling\ is pronounced ASH-ling. It is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and its meaning is "dream, vision". Not in use as a given name during the Middle Ages, but was adopted as part of the Irish revival in the 20th century. Ashling is the Anglicized form.
Aisling has 6 variant forms: Aislinn, Aislyn, Aislynn, Ashling, Ashlynn and Isleen.

It means a particular type of dream - a patriotic vision which was a device used in poetry. You woudln't use it for everyday dreams.
A friend of mine who lives aay from Ireland has a daughter called Ashlinn Erin which I rather like.

I like them all. Ashlyn sounds so lovely, but I lament how trendy it seems to be.
