Actually I'm asking this for a story I'm writing so I should post on the writing board... anyway, here it goes:

First of all, do you like Sandra? (I'm not gonna change this name but I'm just curious)
Secondly, is Sandra a good nn for Alexandra? Or should it be Alessandra?

I like Sandy but Sandra is dated to me. As a nick for Alexandra (or Alessandra, Cassandra or Lysandra), it's fine.

It could be a nn for either Alexandra or Alessandra. I like Alexandra better actually because Alessandra got kind of ruined for me. I don't like Sandra very much, never have, and I know a woman named Sandra that I don't like at all. But it is a better nn than Alex.

I'm sorry, but Sandra is and always has been one of my least favorite names along with Nicole and Monica.

Alexandra is nice, Alessandra is even better but why would you use the outdated Sandra as a nickname ? I much prefer no nickname at all. WDYTO Alessia ?

I really like Sandra. It is dated, but my German exchange partner's name is Sandra and she is 17, so that made me view it differently :)

Sandra is a good nn for Alexandra and/or Alessandra, but I prefer it as a name by itself.

yes, it was a popular name in Germany in the 80s and 90s but now it has fallen completely out of favour. maybe that's why i can't stand it, it seems soooo dated you can't imagine :p

Hehe, that's interesting. I didn't realise that it's not at all popular there anymore!

It's dated here in the UK too, most Sandras I know are friends of my mother :P born in the 50s and 60s.

I don't much like Sandra, because it just makes me think of sand. But it's perfectly fine as a nickname for Alexandra. There's no need to go the Alessandra route.

I don't like Sandra because I don't like its sound and it's very dated in my mind.

Sandra is fine for a nickname for Alexandra or Alessandra.

1. Not really.
2. I think it works for both, but better for Alessandra.
