[Opinions] Re: Nicknames for Atalanta?

I don't know. Atalanta is kind of pretentious if you ask me. Definitely going on my "I'd only recommend as a middle name" list.

Really?
More pretentious than similar Greek mythological names, or do you just feel that way about most names of that sort?

Not all Greek mythological names are. Some, like Iris and Aglaia, I'm fine with as names on real people, but others, like Medea and Jocasta, are too much. I know that a lot of Greek mythology names are used as given names in modern Greece. However, certain names, like Zeus, people stay away from for obvious reasons. I personally would NEVER name my kid Herakles, Medusa, Oedipus, or Clytemnestra. It looks too pretentious.
I've gotta say, I agree with this.
It seems a lot of people like Greek mythology names, but I always thought they sounded pretentious and out there. Everyone has their own taste, though.
