Another poster and I were having a friendly discussion over on the Ops Board about how to pronounce Jarle (Norwegian) and Alois (German).

I searched here for both, and only found Alois. The pronunciations given in the post were: Oll-oys, alloys, and BtN says AH-loh-ees. I'm having trouble thinking that the first two are correct because it's my understanding that every vowel is pronounced (except for sounds like au, ei, ie, etc) in German. So it would be AH-loh-ees, right?

And then Jarle. Is there someone who happens to know the way to pronounce this in Norwegian? It's "YAHR-something". I've been describing it as -lee, but the other poster advised that it was most likely -lay. The syllable itself is (I thought) a short sound and mixture of -lay, -lee, and -leh.

So after that long and probably confusing explanation, does anyone here know how to say Alois and/or Jarle? Any help would be very much appreciated. :-)
