Benedict makes me think of the current pope. Not a good association.
Bic is silly indeed; it's also the brand of ball-point pens. Ben, Dick and Ned seem like more obvious nicknames. I, however, would vote for Bennett as a nickname, because it is the most dignified possibility (in my opinion).
