It's odd that somebody would name a girl after the city though, when it was famous for being the opposite of comfortable, cultured Athens - ascetic and dog-eat-dog (or so I remember from doing 'the Greeks' in primary school!) - hence the adjective 'spartan'. I suppose that might appeal to some people, though.

I wonder whether the choice of name for this girl was inspired by Spartacus instead? That's quite a heartwarming story, all the slaves standing up and saying "I am Spartacus" so nobody would know who to punish? Just a thought.
