Zelda was my nn in college. Others in our group had funny and creative nns. I jokingly complained at not having one. They asked me what I wanted to be called. Off the top of my head I said, "
Zelda" and darned if it didn't stick. No one else's did. After a while, I didn't think about it much. It was just a term of endearment.
Zelda FitzGerald definitely comes to mind. For that reason it conjures up the roaring 20's and silent film stars like
Theda (Bara) and Pola (Negri). I think
Zelda was an exotic sounding name for them, but that's just my guess. It has a vampy quality to it that I like. I know most people see it as a frumpy, "old" name. I choose to see it through the eyes of the teens/20's.
