[Facts] Balthazar
Etymology please? I am thinking maybe Baal + Hebrew azru/asru 'help'??
Replies
thanks but no derivations
Sorry, I see what you mean.
Balthazar is apparently the Latin form of the Middle Eastern (Syriac) name Belshazzar which itself is derived from the Akkadian Bel-sarra-uzur
Bel or Ba'al was an ancient Babylonian deity associated with the moon.
Sarra means "king"
Uzur means "protect".
All in all meaning "Ba'al, protect the king".
