I would guess that someone decided that s + i makes sh, and that Siona is Shona in disguise, which makes it a form of Seonaid, which is Gaelic for Janet . I don't understand anyone who says that a name is American Indian - there were so many tribes, so many languages, unless they can be more precise I'd write them off, frankly. Once I knew a Jewish girl called Ziona, and Zion is sometimes spelt Sion - could be that?
