I don't care for them. Golda sounds old and clunky for some reason to me, but I do like it a tiny bit better than Goldie, which makes me think of 1) a goldfish, 2) Goldie Hawn, and 3) a crazy Jamaican lady I used to work with. :b

Ditto and
I think the reason Golda sounds old is because of Golda Meir.

I don't care for either. They don't feel like names to me.

Yay, Goldie!I'm not a Golda fan, but I think Goldie is absolutely adorable--as a nickname. I think I'd just use it for any name, really, particularly if the girl had blonde hair. And yep, I'm a Goldie Hawn fan. I think she's absolutely adorable. Laugh-In is one of my favourite tv shows.Array

Interesting! This link: http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/levy/golda.html indeed shows Golda as a medieval name for Jews too.

Question: The non-Jewish Golda is derived from Old English gold "gold". Do you think that the Yiddish Golda could be connected to the Old English Golda?

It's very possible, since Old English and Old German are (if I'm not mistaken) connected too. The Yiddish name Golda is translated as Zahava ("golden") in Hebrew.Although most words in Yiddish come from Old German and Hebrew, there are some things that are close to French, Italian, or even English ("woe is me" / "wei is mir").

I had a great-grandma Goldie, so that's what I think of. Along with Goldie Hawn, of course! Golda is nice though... I like it...

I like Golda some(but I'd never use it), but Goldie reminds me of Goldie Hawn. Btw...do you know anything about this? i trust your opinion more than some other peoples.

Golda reminds me of Golda Meir: I have a strong impression about ethnicity associated with the name (of course, I guess). I think it's very graceful, not stern; I like it. Goldie is a bit more rustic sounding / charismatic / familiar .. I like it okay too. I think of G. Hawn. The name Goldie makes me think of "gold" much more readily than Golda does.- chazda"I don't want to look like a loser for the rest of my life!" ~ Georgia Ford, on needing a signature
