Margaret means pearl. For some unknown reason, in French "une marguerite" is the word for a daisy. Confusing, I know, but there it is. I assume in Italian a daisy is also called "una margherita." But it doesn't alter the etymology of Margaret / Marguerite / Margherita, meaning "pearl."
