The sense of Yiddish Putz/Pots though matches Romanian Puta, Latin *putium, in præputium, making Putzlein, little "idiot".
But compare the synonymous schmuck, and German Schmuck, jewelry, ornament.

I doubt that it was used in the medieval Judeo-German vernacular the same way it is used in modern Yiddish.
