As an
Audrey, I cannot count how many times I've been mistaken for
Aubrey. I'm sure I'm partially biased, but I much prefer my name. However, that wasn't always the case. As a child I hated how uncommon and FAR less frequent it was compared to my sister's name.
As I got older, I learned to embrace my name and have since come to like it. I love its infrequency yet familiarity and the vintage and classic vibe that surrounds it.
Aubrey on the other hand just doesn't carry those same descriptions as it's more of a boy turned girl name, flash-in-the pan type. I think it would have been better had it remained a boy's name or have not have had an immense explosion on girls, turning it into a modern fad name for girls. 🫤
In any case, I find it awkward to say and even to listen to. When it comes to names, I tend to prefer the letter 'D' in general and not so much 'B' so it's no surprise as to why I prefer that "drey/dree" over "brey/bree"
Funny how one reversed letter can make such a difference, but it's certainly there.
