I knew an elderly Clarice once who was always called Clary. She had a sister, Patricia, who was always Pat. They had been members at the tennis club for decades, and still 'played' though they couldn't run: their opponents courteously hit straight back to them. So the memories aren't encouraging, but the name itself is OK, but only as a nn.
