[Opinions] Re: Middle Names for Alyssa
in reply to a message by Hello
1. Keep Hermione, get rid of Gabrielle
Oh it'll be the same for all three for me. I like Alyssa Hermione Faith the best.
Um, Hermione is an interesting and pretty name. It's an oddly androgynous feminization of an androygnous divine figure, who also represents cool virtues. Plus, I just think it sounds nice with bright and prissy and active Alyssa, and contrasts nicely with style. Alyssa is very 90s American, where Hermione is more 2000s Brit fashion.
Between Faith, Pearl, and Odette, I think Faith is the prettiest flourish on the end of the combo. I like the other two names, but Faith works best in the combo. I like the "ai" pairing.
The other names are fine. Gabrielle is the most boring and expected, and I don't think it adds much. Alyssa Gabrielle might be pretty but fashionably, both names are dated to the same time period and boring in the same way. If I heard someone named their kid Alyssa Hermione I would think they were creative and artistic, but Alyssa Gabrielle just means they like boring dated names.

Thanks for your response, this is the kind of opinions I'm looking for. Detailed reasons for why we should or should use a name or a pa combo. I don't like Gabrielle for its meaning but rather association. I got it from Xena Warrior Princess and actually prefer Xena but unfortunately other than a first name Xena doesn't really work as a middle name. To me Gabrielle is a warrior, strong, kind, artistic, loyal and fuelled with a lot of partential. Yes it's from a 90s show but said show is timeless. Same reason why I like Hermione, Hermione Grangers attributes, enough said
I get it. Gabrielle as a character name is less distinctive than Hermione, though, because it has been so popular and sounds like a lot of other names. Plus most people know a Gabrielle or two. Hermione doesn't sound like almost any other name, certainly not any popular one, and most people will immediately recognize that it has connection to the JKR character without it having to be explained.
edit: X is a very cool middle initial and Alyssa Xena is a little zazazizi heavy but is cool enough to be allowed to be a bit awkward, IMO
