I don't think most people would automatically spell "sky-ler" that way, and they might not read
Schuyler correctly the first time, but they should be able to take direction.
The only "sky-ler" I've met (we went to middle school together) spelled his name
Schuyler, and I remembered the spelling easily because I thought it was weird.
Schuyler is obviously a surname-as-first name, which makes it seem fancier than other versions, and I do prefer it.
Skyler looks to me like a variation of
Sky,
Skye,
Kyler,
Tyler. I'd rather just see
Sky /
Skye, I dislike
Kyler, and I hate
Tyler.
