Charity sounds uncomfortable, more like donating unwanted/unusable stuff to the deserving poor than its original meaning of (non-sexual) love.
And then there's Dickens, who took one of his most unpleasant, hypocritical characters and gave him daughters named

Mercy, nicknamed respectively
Cherry and
Merry!
