On ancestry.com I found

Kania
Polish and Jewish (Ashkenazic): Polish nickname or Jewish ornamental name, from Polish kania ‘kite’.

Interesting On one of the online translaters I got this result
for Kite,

jastrz¹b, latawiec, kania, weksel grzecznoœciowy, p³yn¹æ w powietrzu, lataæ jak latawiec, zdzierca

on another I put in Kania and got Kite

Having searched them I thought the information might be relevant oh well guess I shouldnt trust on line translators

I just spoke to my mom and she had an answer.

Kania is NOT a first name. It's a last name. And, it's a type of mushroom. Definitely not a kite.

Every language usually has several words for the same thing

So you're both correct. My best friend is actually from Poland (moved here at 14) and said she HAS heard the word "kania" before.

It's a type of portobello mushroom and I've heard lark as the meaning from my friend's bubbe or someone.
