Doesn't seem especially stupid to me. I read it about the same as Marianna, except Mary is obviously more classic than Ashley.
It also reminds me of Liliana, Luciana, Brianna, Joanna, Pollyanna, etc.
I'd rather be Ashlianna than Ashley, which I think is ugly.
