I really like Tempest, but I also like to watch storms. Tempest suggests power, wild, untamable passion, and chaotic beauty. It is also dangerous and destructive, so I wouldn’t use it as a first name.
Shakespeare’s “Tempest” is a complex and mystical story with multiple post colonial interpretations. As master manipulator, Prospero is both the hero and villain, but many of the most powerful lines belong to Ariel (the only native to the island since Caliban’s mother had been shipwrecked witch) and Caliban, who is both oppressed and an oppressor. For me the association of the play is a bonus, but for others it might be considered too morally ambiguous and divisive.
