[Facts] Re: meaning and heritage of Meghan

All reliable commentators state that Megan is a Welsh form of Margaret. However, the person who stated that Meghan is not a Welsh spelling was correct.
Quoting Cleveland Evans, "The many respellings of this name are American attempts to make the name look Irish, but it is not an Irish name...The idea that it's Irish may have come from confusing it with the Irish surname "Meighan," with which it has no connection."
The meaning of Meighan, by the way, is "honorable."
