If you mean in the US, it seems to have suddenly come into use in 1949, when 18 girls were given the name Brynn, with that spelling. I can't find any before that.

In the UK it's always been male, with usage mostly confined to Wales - it's a masculine noun in Welsh. There's a couple of feminisations - Brynda & Brynwen.
