Begey is definitely a French name which is most prevalent in eastcentral France (tinyurl.com/zl8dlku). Two brothers immigrated from there in the late 1800s (tinyurl.com/h72xvcu, tinyurl.com/gku94rp). That's the only source of the American Begeys I've found.
