This is my sister-in-laws name and I think it usable. It's still a bit dusty and the middle 'd' does nothing to help it sound modern.
Still, it's quirky.
Our
Mildred is called Mildz by many of us and Dred by her husband (eck!). I would be far more likely to go with
Milly as a shortening.
As for combos,
Mildred Holly,
Mildred Vale,
Mildred Selene or
Mildred Caroline might work.
