I agree with your fondness for plain, durable things. Where I live, there are about half a million
Anna people for every one Ann/e, so I'd go the
Anne route - in fact, I have. The point of middle names, I think, is to keep family links alive, provided that one's friends and relations are not uniformly saddled with ghastly names.
Gertrude and
Percy spring to mind as family names to be decently buried.
Anne and
David deserve to be kept alive - and we did.
