My favorite Angel- name will always be Angeline, but I like Angelica, too. I picture the plant, all rangy and unpretty with those big clusters of flowers that look like Hoberman spheres. I like the image, and I feel like it adds a little bit of hardiness to a very soft name.

It's often not easy to stop very obvious nicknames, but if you correct anyone who calls her Angie, you can probably avoid it, at least while she's small. As she gets older, she may not care, or she may like Angie and choose it for herself, and it would be out of your hands. If you absolutely loathe Angie, Angelica is a risky choice.
