[Opinions] Re: French BAs
in reply to a message by Pie
This interests me very much!
I live in French-speaking Canada, and very few of the names listed are used here for newborns.
Almost nome of the girls' names are current;some of the boys' are. I also notice, no double names, which are favourites here, and have been for a long time, mostly for males..Jean-Marc, Leo-Paul.
Although there are some girls' ones also..Marie-France, Nicole-Renee.Thanks for posting this!

Compound names and "ette" names haven't been popular in France for quite some time, it's too old fashion. Half the names on this list are what is considered "beauf" which basically means trashy (idk how else to explain it). I'm really sick of the Lilou and Maëlys variations, and the Y trend is slowly creeping in which is disappointing. However I'm seeing a lot of old fashioned names coming back which is a relief

That's fascinating - as you can see here, the double names are not very popular at all in France right now:

I would love to see some birth announcements from your area, if you ever get time to collect some!

Several of the boys' double-names are in use in my area;nearly all actually.(Louis-Phillipe is nearly always shortened to LP!)For the girls' names, Marie-Soleil is popular;I love it, a beautiful name.
